RaumTeiler

„My portfolio reflects a journey from physical perfection to systemic logic. Combining my experience in modelling and CMF with systemic research, I provide solutions that bridge the gap between industry and art.“

The Concept

My Bachelor’s thesis challenges the societal norm of increasing individualization by fundamentally rethinking the typology of the „room divider.“ Rooted in Henri Lefebvre’s sociological spatial theory—which views the sharing of space as a fundamental human practice—the object shifts from being a mere physical barrier to a social tool. RaumTeiler overcomes purely separating functions. It invites us to reclaim spaces for collective experiences, while still respecting the fundamental human need for withdrawal.

Design & Interaction

The design is stripped down to two architectural core elements: a structural metal frame and a multifunctional panel. Through a simple, intuitive interaction, the piece radically changes its character. Placed horizontally, it becomes a generous table—a platform that brings people together for shared activities. Inserted vertically into the frame, it transforms into a classic room divider, creating a spatial boundary for moments that require deep focus and conscious separation.

Materiality & CMF

The Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) strategy precisely underlines the dual semantics of the design. In the horizontal table position, the vibrant orange acts as an activating, warm, and inviting surface. When standing vertically, the perception flips: the orange becomes a bold, visual signal color that clearly marks a boundary. The open structure of the bent metal tubing provides the functional counterpoint. It exudes visual lightness to encourage physical interaction and rebuilding, yet possesses the massive stability required to uncompromisingly support the panel in both states.
